If you’re a frequent visitor to GoSprout, you already know that we love it when mainstream media spreads the gospel about apprenticeships.
You also know that we’re huge advocates for integrated systems that start with high school Pre-Apprenticeships that feed directly into Registered Apprenticeships at colleges and universities within the same community. That’s powerful stuff!
That said, we’ve got a triple shoutout to share.
Shoutout 1: PPI
Host Taylor Maag, Director of Workforce Development Policy for the Progressive Policy Institute put together a fantastic panel to discuss Workforce including:
Vanessa Bennett Director at Jobs for the Future
Lateefah Durant VP at CityWorks, D.C.
Jess Kostelnik, Senior Policy Advisor – Workforce to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis
Seth Lentz, CEO of the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin
Shoutout 2: The 74
The 74 is a fantastic source for education news and put the webinar together.
Shout 3: Yahoo Finance
We love to see apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships and/or youth apprenticeship, which the panel even mentions isn’t really codified to date, in mainstream news coverage.
Yes, the article was a bit lite but Yahoo distributed the webinar via YouTube in full, and we hope to see more of this type of coverage.
For businesses, many of whom should have both preapprenticeships and registered apprenticeships already (and don’t), it is a topic for finance teams to be on top of.
Having a cost-effective way to fill present and future positions in order to keep a business’s growth trajectory on track or even acceleration should be receiving just as much attention as other buzz-worthy topics like AI-adoption or green energy.

Key Takeaways
- “Youth apprenticeship” as a concept is a bit ambiguous and needs to be codified.
- There is a lot of interest and momentum at local, state, and federal levels to meet demand among youth.
- These pathways are NOT presently available to as many young people as needed, so lots of work needs to be done.
- DoL is heavily pushing this initiative in various ways.
- A number of states are getting behind this as well.
- Programs need to meet employer demand but also meet the needs of youth including earning money for personal and familial use.
- Graduates from pre-apprenticeships are ahead of the curve when they hit full-time work and thus earn better at that stage as well.
How GoSprout Can Help
Regardless of the particular skillset to be developed (electricians, welding, finance, IT, etc.), GoSprout provides the framework for both the high school and registered apprenticeship and even the integrations to support their payroll.
For employers and sponsors (and employers who their own sponsors), our apprenticeship management software facilitates the coordination among stakeholders and streamlined compliance, which takes the stress out of DoL visits and similar.
Overall, what GoSprout does is allow firms to coordinate and run apprenticeships with high schools and colleges in a profitable way, that makes being a journeywork, sponsor coordinator, and most importantly, apprentice, a delightful experience that unlocks all the benefits of apprenticeships including being able to earn real wages while finishing a secondary education. Yes, please!
